Gaynor Releases Statement on Maricopa Audit Report

Phoenix, Arizona – Republican candidate for Governor Steve Gaynor released a statement on the Maricopa Audit report released today.

“I ran for Secretary of State in 2018 because I knew the way we run our elections could be improved. As the audit now shows, there is much improvement needed. A few other points:

  1. Katie Hobbs should have led this audit, not attacked it. The non-partisan nature of the results, conclusions and recommendations show that her attacks were baseless and nothing but political opportunism at its worst.
  2. The Legislature should implement the audit recommendations to insure that future elections are free from concern about fraud.
  3. Adrian Fontes should never run another election.
  4. The scope of the audit did not include the issue of Fed Only voters, but it remains a huge problem. More than 20,000 people would not or could not submit proof of citizenship when they registered to vote in Arizona. Nonetheless, they can vote in federal elections. This is more than Biden’s margin last November.

The Arizona Senate was right to conduct the audit. I am thankful to Senate President Karen Fann and the Senators who voted for it.”
